Bryan Shelton Interview; Two Big College Rivalry Matches Wednesday

Before the start of play today at the International Spring Championships, I wanted to link to my interview with Georgia Tech women's coach Bryan Shelton for Tennis Recruiting Network. I hope to continue to feature these question and answer sessions with college coaches on a regular basis.

This is such an important time in college tennis, I wish I had more time to devote to all of the matches that will help decide conference champions, but spending 10 hours a day at the courts just doesn't allow it.

Two matches this week that will be major factors in deciding conference winners saw the North Carolina women edge Duke 4-3, and the Texas A & M men upset Baylor by an eyebrow-raising score of 6-1.

The A&M - Baylor match was much closer than the final score indicates. A&M got up to a quick 3-0 lead by winning the doubles point and then line 1 & 2 singles before Baylor started a comeback. It could have been a 4-3 Baylor outcome but A&M was able to pull it together and hold on at lines 3-5. In fact, lines 3 & 4 were both decided in a third set tiebreak and line 5 was 3-all in the final set before the A&M player (Bautista) broke the Baylor player (Mueller) and went on to win the match.
