More May Aces; Shabaz Set to Attend Virginia
Yesterday, Part 2 of my May Aces went up on The Tennis Recruiting Network. Two of those junior aces, Ryan Harrison and Gabriela Paz, are continuing their fine play at the Grass Courts.
Also, it was announced yesterday in the Charlottesville Daily Progress that Michael Shabaz will be part of the team at the University of Virginia beginning this fall.

wow. virginia has some serious questions they need to answer about how they can give away so many scholarships. very sketchy....
It's not like Virginia is the only school that apparently can give a lot of scholarships. Look at who Florida is bringing in this year alone!
Glad to hear Michael is still playing great tennis. I had Michael and Nicole in the Advanced Training Centers in NoVA/DC and worked with them for a little while during my time in McLean and Arlington, VA

its easy to bring in a good class when you operate with roughly 9 scholarships like fl and ga. The hope and bright futures make it very easy to go there for cheap. The academic standards to receive 90% scholarship are very easy!
Yes, I find it ridiculous that people spend so much time debating the issue of foreign players in college tennis when a much more pressing concern is the way in which a school like Ga manages to cheat the system regarding scholarships.
As far as I'm concerned, a scholarship is a scholarship and it doesn't matter whether they're academic or sporting - they all count towards the team total of 4.5
Plus, if they're giving out all of those non-sports scholarships, where's the proof of academic results ? Surely, if the recipients really deserved them then at least one or two would be turning up in the lists of ITA All-Academic .
i agree...this is the biggest problem in college tennis. the playing field is so not level because of january admits and "hope" scholarship loopholes and academic scholarships given to anyone at schools like uva etc... until this is cleaned up it is hard to know who has truly the best programs. right now its just a matter of who can cheat and beat the system the best.
Florida always has bad reputation in sports.

US tennis sport when you have so many foreign players.

until you have proof of ANY wrongdoing in ANY sport leave UVA out of this... it is impossible to clear athletes through our admissions dept and i assure you that nothing "sketchy" is going on -- its not as if everyone is on a 100% scholarship - we're just lucky enough to have a team where a lot of guys can afford not to be
also re: UGA - Isner gave up his scholarship for the good of the team...
