Alabama Bound

Early post today, as we're on our way to Mobile for the USTA Boys and Girls 18s Spring Championships, which start Sunday. The prospect of spring is so enticing after all the snow and cold we've had here in the Midwest the past two months. The TennisLink tournament webpage for the Mobile tournament is here. Draws are scheduled to be posted today.

While we're in Mobile, the pros will be in Indian Wells for the Pacific Life Open. The first big US tournament of the year, it draws most of the top US tennis writers, and one of them, Matt Cronin, has found a couple of qualifying stories I think will interest zootennis readers about USC's Lindsey Nelson and 15-year-old Coco Vandeweghe. (I hate to nitpick, but Nelson is 21, hardly a teenager, and Vandeweghe is the niece, not the daughter, of Kiki.) For those interested in the outcome of the big USC - UCLA women's match yesterday, the story of the Trojans 4-3 win is here.
